Landscape Environment- Edward Weston

Through looking at Wynn Bullocks work I came across the artist Edward Weston who was a lifelong friend of Bullocks. This is a very grand photo, the massive mountains, the vast sky. The size of the mountains are shown even more because of how little the trees look. In comparison to a human these trees would be big so we automatically associate the massive size of the mountain with the smallness of the trees. To me it seems like this picture sets out to show natural beauty of the environment. It really is beautiful, the clouds in the picture I think really help to enhance the beauty of the surroundings.

Westons landscape photos seem to be amazing landscapes. They are all beautiful and natural. There seems to be no man made elements within his landscapes. I think it would be interesting to look at how man is effecting these beautiful landscapes because they really are beautiful. Something I want to investigate is whether adding man made elements to a natural landscape improves it's beauty. Or is the reason these landscapes appear to be so beautiful because it is not something that is seen often by the average person. If we lived in these places would we just find them to be average? If we lived in natural landscapes and saw great city's would we find those beautiful instead? Then of course it's a lot about personal opninion. One person may love the busyness and tall buildings of a city, while another could find it claustrophobic and dirty. However either way I think people should be open mindedness enough to be able to appreciate the beauty in both places, whilst of course at the same time holding a favourite. Im now going to go and look at artists who have experimented with the mixture of man made elements within landscapes.
